Ultrafiltration (UF) Process

HydroTech offers ultrafiltration systems (UF) to remove suspended solids (TSS) from the feed water. Water is pumped through UF system and when pressure is applied, the suspended solids and solutes of high molecular weight are retained in the so-called retentate, while water and low molecular weight solutes pass through to the permeate (filtrate). Ultrafiltration membranes are defined by the molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) so the selection of UF membrane to be used is based on feed solution and requirements as to what contaminants need to be treated. Depending on raw water characteristics (temperature, presence of oils and fats, etc.), different types of UF modules can be offered to achieve the best result at the lowest cost. Examples include ceramic, hollow-fiber, sheet membranes, etc.

Design Assumptions

Feed water must be up to 500 TSS at 25°C (77°F)

Turbidity < 15 NTU

Flow rates, flux and recovery in accordance with membrane manufacturers’ recommendations

Available Systems

Our nominal POSEIDON-UF product line is available for flows from 5 GPM to 800 GPM (7,200-1,152,000 GPD). We have the capability to custom design a system to any project specification.
